At last Christopher Paolini answers some questions
Answers by Christopher Paolini
Did Tornac teach Murtagh just to fight with his sword or also the mind defense and the ancient language? If yes, why did Galbatorix tolerate such a powerful companion with Morzan’s son? If no, who taught Murtagh speak the ancient language correctly so quickly?
In regard to mind defense, in Alagaësia many people who don’t use magic have learned to defend their minds, to shield their thoughts from unwanted intrusion. This is not a matter of ability but of will power. Since Murtagh grew up around Galbatorix, Morzan, and other magicians, it was inevitable that he learned things about the inner workings of the empire. So Morzan and others taught Murtagh to shield himself. This was more to protect themselves than for Murtagh’s benefit.
I’m sure Murtagh picked up a few words of the ancient language from the magicians when he was growing up. However, he learned the majority of it from Eragon when they were traveling from Brom’s tomb to Gil’ead. Also, Galbatorix would have trained Murtagh in the ancient language after Thorn hatched.
Where did Ajihad come from? Was his home country the same as the country where the Ra’zak came from? If yes, why was Ajihad black and King Palancar’s people white?
Ajihad was born in Alagaësia; his people have lived there for many generations. I will reveal more of his back story in the third book. As for the origin of people with dark skin in Alagaësia, see the “Concise History of Alagaësia” in the Limited Edition of Eldest.
When and how did the woman Brom loved and to whom his love had been her downfall die?
Ahh, for that you must wait until Book Three.
How did Ismira die? Did she commit suicide or someone/something killed her?
Ismira loved walking. One day she went to collect wild flowers in the Spine. There, she slipped and fell at the top of Igualda Falls. It was an accident, a tragedy of life.
Who originally stole Saphira’s egg from Galbatorix and why did he/she succeed to take only one of the three?
I may tell this story more fully in the future, but what I can say is that it was taken by an agent the Varden had placed within Galbatorix’s castle. Only one egg was taken because he or she botched the job and, as I said in Eragon, the thief did not take the egg to the Varden, as originally planned, but fled with it. This led to the great dragon egg hunt among Morzan, Brom, and Jeod.
How did the first Rider Eragon and Bid’Darm die?
That is a story for another time.
Will there be additional races in the Book 3 (hobits, trolls, …)? Do they live in Alagaësia even if we will not encounter them in the course of the Inheritance trilogy?
I don’t think so, but then I never planned on having Feldûnost, so you never know what may show up. Yes, there may very well be additional races in Alagaësia that Eragon has yet to encounter.
Why are Elva’s eyes purple? Is it the natural colour of her eyes or has it been affected by Eragon’s blessing/curse?
Elva’s eyes have been affected by Eragon’s actions. The color of her eyes is the physical manifestation of the magic that flows through her, just as Durza’s maroon eyes and crimson hair reflected the amount of energy that coursed through him.
How large is Alagaësia in comparison to continents on Earth?
Alagaësia is the larger portion of an even larger continent.
Did Eragon already acquire the weapon mentioned by Solembum in the first book?
No. Trust me, when he gets it, I’ll make a big deal of it.
How many Dragon Riders were there between the first and last Eragon? How long did they usually live or serve their duty in peaceful and difficult times?
There were many hundreds of Dragon Riders over the course of the centuries. They tended to have very long lives, but much shorter than the average elf’s because their occupation was so dangerous.
What is the principle of werecats’ and Bladgen’s abilities to foretell the future? Is there a difference between the werecats and the raven? Do they sense the future of a person who they meet or do they have a general awareness of the future of Alagaësia in a wider context?
Many people and creatures who have magic in their blood, even beyond the levels of an elf, can sense, at least vaguely, the direction events may take in the near future. This ability is linked to the very nature of magic and is something that the magicians of Alagaësia do not fully understand.
The werecats are an ancient race. Blagden, in contrast, was endowed with his abilities by the elf king, Evandar. Also, Blagden can’t shapeshift.
What happened with Brom’s blue sword?
Brom’s sword was presumed lost or destroyed in the battle where the Forsworn killed his dragon, Saphira.
Please, tell us more about the culture of dwarfs.
Gladly, in Book Three!
Where did the dragons come from? If they are native to Alagaësia, did they evolve there or were they created together with the land? How?
Dragons evolved in the land of Alagaësia from a common ancestor they share with the Fanghur, the dragonettes that Eragon and Saphira encountered in the Beor Mountains.
Are elves capable of loving another person after their partner dies? In other words, is it in nature of Arya to love ever again in her life?
Elves are very loyal once they give their heart to someone, and they will mourn for a long time if they lose a partner. Although it may take them decades to recover, they certainly can have other relationships and truly love again. More of Arya’s story will be revealed in Book Three.

When is the Third book coming out?
April 28, 2007 at 2:46 am
Hey just as an answer to some of your questions…..The third book is called Empire, it is coming out in May of 2008 (i think) and for the first person who made a comment……A trilogy IS a set of 3 BOOKS!!!!
I am pretty sure that These are accurate answers and I also think that If he made a whole book of the ancient language it would be pretty pointless…..

May 1, 2007 at 11:25 pm
where does the name eldest fall in with the story? i know eragon is for eragon’s name and empire because eragon is fighting the empire but what’s with eldest?
May 2, 2007 at 7:04 am
Eldest comes from the Eragon meeting the first dragon/dragon rider. They are the eldest.
Where did you hear that the third title would be called Empire?
May 2, 2007 at 9:37 pm
read what dragon rider wrote.
May 2, 2007 at 9:41 pm
lewiswalkz remember in the 2nd book when it said that elves don’t get married. i don’t think arya will marry eragon
May 2, 2007 at 10:06 pm
THE TITLE OF THE LAST BOOK IS NOT EMPIRE. THAT WAS JUST A RUMOR. IT DOES START WITH AN E. THAT IS ALL PAOLINI REVEALED IN AN INTERVIEW ABOUT THE TITLE. HE DID SAY THAT THE COVER WILL BE GREEN AND THAT A GREEN DRAGON FACING TO THE RIGHT WILL BE IN THE CENTER.
May 2, 2007 at 10:06 pm
IT COMES OUT IN AUGUST OF 2008
May 2, 2007 at 10:52 pm
I am almost POSITIVE that it comes out may or june of 2008. Nasuada, what is up with the caps??? newayz. Everyone knows that it will be green with a dragon facing the right. and I am pretty sure that the title IS Empire. It would really fit. or another POSSIBILITY is Elvish or Elvian. Some theories of mine are that Brom is Eragon’s father, Oromis WILL die, Arya will be the Rider of the Green Dragon (that is the most likely fit, if anyone has questions on this I have answers), a POSSIBILITY is that Eragon and Saphira WILL get captured but will escape (obviously) but i doubt this one, Eragon will learn his True Name and go to the Vault of Souls to fulfill Solembum’s Prophecy, also he will get a BLUE sword (probably brom’s) from under the roots of the Manoa tree, AND lastly, RORAN will be teh new King Of Alagaesia after galbatorix’s death will katrina as his queen….
Anymore questions?

is it possible that roran will become a rider?
May 3, 2007 at 11:34 pm
Lovethebooks~ There is a slight possibility that Roran will be the next rider, but it is not very likely for a couple reasons. First is just a lineage thing. Realize that Morzan being Murtaghs father and they were both riders. Brom being Eragon’s father and they were both riders. Roran has no rider lineage though. This does not mean he COULDN”T be a rider but it does seem to sort of run in the family. That is not a likely reason though. A better reason for why he wouldn’t is that he is the most likely to become king of alagaesia and I don’t think that he will be king AND a rider. But it is very possible that roran COULD be a rider. Paolini has not siad nething on roran so it is up for debate. If he is a rider then Nasuada will most likely be the new ruler of alagaesia. That is really all just guessing but it is all that I have got.
May 3, 2007 at 11:47 pm
On Roran newayz…….!!!
May 4, 2007 at 12:24 am
if eragon desides that it is pointless to like arya do u think that mabey he might start to like nasuada even though she is a little older?
May 4, 2007 at 10:47 pm
Maybe, but not likely. I do think that Arya and Eragon will end up together or they will Eragon will banish any hopes of being with her and just focus on his duties as a rider. I don’t think that if he decides to give up on arya he will like nasuada. And if he did, I don’t think that she would like him bakc. They are friends but Eragon has sworn Fealty to her, and she can’t be distracted by eragon as the leader of the varden, as eragon can’t really be distracted by her from his training and duties, as is also the case with arya. I don’t think that he will pursue any relationship with anyone until after galbatorix is dead and the war is over. Then he may try to approach Arya again (maybe she will approach him! but that could be wishful thinking) but if not, I don’t think he will pursue any other relationships with other people….

This is what i think: i think that roran will become king somehow. He is already leading carvahall practically and he seems like a realy good leader. he pursuaded the village to leave their homes and set out to surda. he and eragon will rescue katrina and she will be the queen.
i also think that theyre might be a new elven queen or king, because islandzadi is quite old and that just what i think. It will be interesitng to see if that ACTUALLY does happen, and IF arya ends up leading the elves or becoming a rider???
newasy that prob doesnt make sense.. but i also think that the child blessed by saphira and eagon will play an important part.
in eragons prophecy it says that eragon will leave this land forever or something like that, so i think that murtagh will be killed (its just my thoughts) and eradon and arya (who could be the last dragon rider??) will leave alagaesia forever and go on adventures and stuff like that… yeah welll i dont really know soo these are just some of my thoguthts!!
May 5, 2007 at 8:04 am
I have read both books and I am pretty sure that he will surprise us with the title. As for Arya and Eragon I don’t think he would allow that to happen. It is like one of those relationships on T.V. You know the ones that you wish, it really gripes me but make for good reading. As for the movie eeeh it was a joke and it really dishonored the book. To many things were different. When Brom was killed it sickened me. It was obvious at who Murtagh is just to many similarities. As for the katrina therory it is sound. If it does happen than Roran will turn and Eragon will figure out a way to reverse the oath of Mutagh. Now that would be great reading there.
May 5, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Katrina will no doubt be rescued. In chapter three, eragon and roran set out to Helgrind to find Katrina, so it will probably be much more exciting then the second one! BUT in the third chapter eragon and roran and saphira run into trouble with the lethrblaka and raz’zac, so IDK! I think it is possible that Eragon will actually be captured but will escape. Do you guys want an excerpt from Chapter Three??? It is way good! EXCITING ALL THE WAY AND IT TOTALLY LEAVES YOU HANGING!!!!!!!

i knw that im the millionth person who has asked this but do we have a DEFINIT answer on when the 3 book is coming out?

May 6, 2007 at 11:48 pm
OK, There is NOT a definite actual SET date for the third book, but it is FOR SURE in 2008. IT is MOST LIKELY between MAY-JULY (may is the most likely time) and if not in FALL sometime. AND THERE IS A RUMORED RELEASE DATE THAT IS MAY 25 2008 BUT THIS IS NOT EXACT SO DON”T GET ALL SET ON THAT DATE!!!!
Dwarf Girl~ Just in case you are still on here and never got an answer to your question “how does eldest fit in with the story” I have a pretty good answer for that.
Eldest is because Murtagh is the SUPPOSEDLY the ELDEST of he and eragon and so Zar’roc is his INHERITANCE and he took it from eragon bcuz it was his BIRTHRIGHT! So, that is an idea of where eldest comes in as a title.
Eldest by definition, means the firstborn or eldest of a group of children or etc. So the answer is that murtagh is the ELDEST of he and eragon being at least 1-2 years older then he is….answer enough?

LIGHT AND SHADOW
(An Excerpt from the Third Chapter of
the Third Book of the Inheritance trilogy)
“Saphira kneaded the soil beneath her feet. Let us be off! Leaving their bags and supplies hanging from the branch of a juniper tree, Eragon and Roran clambered onto Saphira’s back. They wasted no time saddling her; she had worn her tack through the night. The molded leather was warm, almost hot, underneath Eragon. He clutched the neck spike in front of him—to steady himself during sudden changes in direction—while Roran hooked one thick arm around Eragon’s waist and brandished his hammer with the other.
A piece of shale cracked under Saphira’s weight as she settled into a low crouch and then, in a single giddy bound, leaped up to the rim of the gulch, where she balanced for a moment before unfolding her massive wings. The thin membranes thrummed as Saphira raised them toward the sky. Vertical, they looked like two translucent blue sails.
“Not so tight,” grunted Eragon.
“Sorry,” said Roran. He loosened his embrace.
Further speech became impossible as Saphira jumped again.
When she reached the pinnacle of her jump, she brought her wings down with a mighty whoosh, driving the three of them even higher. With each subsequent flap, they climbed closer to the flat, narrow clouds that extended east to west.
As Saphira angled toward Helgrind, Eragon glanced to his left and discovered that, because of their elevation, he could see a broad swath of Leona Lake some miles distant. A thick layer of mist, gray and ghostly in the pre-dawn glow, emanated from the water, as if witchfire burned upon the surface of the liquid. Eragon tried, but even with his hawklike vision, he could not make out the far shore, nor the southern reaches of the Spine beyond, which he regretted. He had not laid eyes upon the mountain range of his childhood since leaving Palancar Valley.
To the north stood Dras-Leona, a huge, rambling mass that appeared as a blocky silhouette against the wall of mist that edged its western flank. The one building Eragon could identify was the cathedral where the Ra’zac had attacked him; its flanged spire
loomed above the rest of the city, like a barbed spearhead. And somewhere in the landscape that rushed past below, Eragon knew, were the remnants of the campsite where the Ra’zac had mortally wounded Brom. He allowed all of his anger and grief over the events of that day—as well as Garrow’s murder and the destruction of their farm—to surge forth and give him the courage, nay, the desire, to face the Ra’zac in combat.
Eragon, said Saphira. Today we need not guard our minds and keep our thoughts secret from one another, do we?
Not unless another magician should appear.
A fan of golden light flared into existence as the top of the sun crested the horizon. In an instant, the full spectrum of colors enlivened the previously drab world: the mist glowed white, the water became a rich blue, the daubed-mud wall that encircled the center of Dras-Leona revealed its dingy yellow sides, the trees cloaked themselves in every shade of green, and the soil blushed red and orange. Helgrind, however, remained as it always was—black.
The mountain of stone rapidly grew larger as they approached. Even from the air, it was intimidating.
Diving toward the base of Helgrind, Saphira tilted so far to her left, Eragon and Roran would have fallen if they had not already strapped their legs to the saddle. Then she whipped around the apron of scree and over the altar where the priests of Helgrind observed their ceremonies. The lip of Eragon’s helm caught the wind from her passage and produced a howl that almost deafened him.
“Well?” shouted Roran. He could not see in front of them. “The slaves are gone!”
A great weight seemed to press Eragon into his seat as Saphira pulled out of her dive and spiraled up around Helgrind, searching for an entrance to the Ra’zac’s hideout.
Not even a hole big enough for a woodrat, she declared. She slowed and hung in place before a ridge that connected the third lowest of the four peaks to the prominence above. The jagged buttress magnified the boom produced by each stroke of her wings until it was as loud as a thunderclap. Eragon’s eyes watered as the air pulsed against his skin.
A web of white veins adorned the backside of the crags and pillars, where hoarfrost had collected in the cracks that furrowed the rock. Nothing else disturbed the gloom of Helgrind’s inky, windswept ramparts. No trees grew there among the slanting stones, nor shrubs, nor grass, nor moss, nor lichen, nor did eagles dare nest upon the tower’s broken ledges. True to its name, Helgrind was a place of death, and stood cloaked in the razor-sharp, sawtoothed folds of its scarps and clefts like a bony specter risen to haunt the earth.
Casting his mind outward, Eragon confirmed the presence of one of the slaves, as well as the two people whom he had discovered imprisoned within Helgrind the previous day, but to his concern, he could not locate the Ra’zac or the Lethrblaka. If they aren’t here, then where? he wondered. Searching again, he noticed something that had eluded him before: a single flower, a gentian, blooming not fifty feet in front of them where, by all rights, there ought to be solid rock. How does it get enough light to live?
Saphira answered his question by perching on a crumbling spur several feet to the right. As she did, she lost her balance for a moment and flared her wings to steady herself. Instead of brushing against the bulk of Helgrind, the tip of her right wing dipped into the rock and then back out again.
Saphira, did you see that!
I did.
Leaning forward, Saphira pushed the tip of her snout toward the sheer rock, paused an inch or two away—as if waiting for a trap to spring—then continued her advance. Scale by scale, Saphira’s head slid into Helgrind, until all that was visible of her to Eragon was a neck, torso, and wings.
It’s an illusion! exclaimed Saphira.
With a surge of her mighty thews, she abandoned the spur and flung the rest of her body after her head. It required every bit of Eragon’s self-control not to cover his face in a desperate bid to protect himself as the crag rushed toward him.
An instant later, he found himself looking at a broad, vaulted cave suffused with the warm glow of morning. Saphira’s scales refracted the light, casting thousands of shifting blue flecks across the rock. Twisting around, Eragon saw no wall behind them, only the mouth of the cave and a sweeping view of the landscape beyond.
Eragon grimaced. It had never occurred to him that Galbatorix might have hidden the Ra’zac’s lair with magic. Idiot! I have to do better, he thought. Underestimating the king was a sure way to get them all killed.
Roran swore and said, “Warn me before you do something like that again.”
Hunching forward, Eragon unbuckled his legs from the saddle as he studied their surroundings, alert for any danger.
The opening to the cave was an irregular oval, perhaps fifty feet high and sixty feet wide. From there, the chamber expanded to twice that size before ending a good bowshot away in a pile of thick stone slabs that leaned against each other in a confusion of uncertain angles. A mat of powder-gray scratches defaced the floor, evidence of the many times the Lethrblaka had taken off, landed, and walked about thereon. Like mysterious keyholes, five low tunnels pierced the sides of the cave, as did a lancet passageway large enough to accommodate Saphira. Eragon examined the tunnels carefully, but they were pitch-black and appeared vacant, a fact he confirmed with quick thrusts of his mind. Strange, disjointed murmurs echoed from within Helgrind’s innards, suggesting unknown things scurrying about in the dark, and endlessly dripping water. Adding to the chorus of whispers was the steady rise and fall of Saphira’s breathing, which was overloud in the confines of the bare chamber.
The most distinctive feature of the cavern, however, was the mixture of odors that pervaded it. The smell of cold stone dominated, but underneath it, Eragon discerned whiffs of damp and mold and something far worse: the sickly-sweet fetor of rotting meat.
Undoing the last few straps, Eragon swung his right leg over Saphira’s spine, so he was sitting sidesaddle, and prepared to jump off her back. Roran did the same on the opposite side.
Before he released his hold, Eragon heard, amid the many rustlings that teased his ear, a score of simultaneous clicks, as if someone had struck the rock with a collection of hammers. The sound repeated itself a half-second later.
He looked in the direction of the noise, as did Saphira.
A huge, twisted shape hurtled out of the lancet passageway. Eyes black, bulging, rimless. A beak seven feet long. Batlike wings. The torso naked, hairless, rippling with muscle. Claws like iron spikes.
Saphira lurched as she tried to evade the Lethrblaka, but to no avail. The creature crashed into her right side with what felt to Eragon like the strength and fury of an avalanche.
What exactly happened next, he knew not, for the impact sent him tumbling through space without so much as a half-formed thought in his jumbled brain. His blind flight ended as abruptly as it began when something hard and flat rammed against the back of him, and he dropped to the floor, banging his head a second time.
That last collision drove the remaining air clean out of Eragon’s lungs. Stunned, he lay curled on his side, gasping and struggling to regain a semblance of control over his unresponsive limbs.
Eragon! cried Saphira.”

DragonRider if you were paying attention at the end of eldest you will realize that Brom isn’t Eragons father or he would have told him that when he died. Anyway it says at the end of eldest that MORZAN is Eragons father. Also I think that maybe it won’t be Broms sword under the tree but perhaps the first Eragon’s sword. Also id like to say to Dragonrider you r a BUT HEAD!! Also if u think im an idiot ur wrong, ive read both books about 5 times in all.

OK “stronghammer” you are blind as a bat if you are so CLOSE-MINDED as to not leave your brain open to POSSIBLITIES! There are several good reasons that BROM COULD BE ERAGON”S FATHER. Yes, I may be wrong and I am not afraid to admit it, but I think that there are many valid reasons that I could BE RIGHT!!! And if you pull up the “murtagh said that morzan was eragon’s father IN THE ANCIENT LANG.” then I will find you and come kick your fricken tiny butt…bcuz if he BELIEVED that then he wouldn’t be lying and COULD say it in the AC. NOW, open up your tiny little brain and think about these…..I got these from a website from on another forum…. and to the other people on this website, including you stronghammer, then if you disagree with someone, then try being kinder about it and not go biting their head off. I may not be nice to “stronghammer” but he started it. SO PLEASE TRY TO BE NICE AND EXCUSE MY MEAN WORDS TO STRONG HAMMER BCUZ I WON”T BE MEAN TO NEONE ELSE. I ACTUALLY RESPECT PEOPLE’S OPINIONS….unlike SOME people
Does neone BESIDES stronghammer think that morzan is eragon’s father? Well if you do then you should read these…..(don’t worry I won’t freak out at you, just at stronghammer)
P. 546 in ELDEST
“Son and Father alike, both blind as bats”.
This is about betrayal. Brom was blind to Morzan’s betrayal, and Eragon was blind to Murtagh’s betrayal.
Eldest page 656:
Saphira ruffled his hair with a gust of hot breath. “Just remember, whatever Brom’s reasons, he always tried to protect us from danger. He died saving you from the Ra’zac.”
“I know…. Do you think he didn’t tell me about this because he was afraid I might emulate Morzan, like Murtagh has?” ( THIS MEANS TELL HIM ABOUT MORZAN BEING HIS FATHER, HE WOULDNL”T TELL ERAGON THAT BCUZ IT ISN”T TRUE)
“Of course not.” (SEE SAPHIRA IS SMART, AS YOU SO OBVIOUSLY ARN’T)
He looked at her, curious. “How can you be so certain?” She lifted her head high above him and refused to meet his eyes or to answer. “Have it your way, then.”
This is an enormously important quote. Saphira is waiting to tell Oromis/Glaedr (she might have done so already) about Brom being Eragon’s father. I think it’s a sure bet that Oromis will be the one to tell Eragon the truth. Just like in Book 1, Saphira knows that Eragon isn’t quite mature enough to receive this information.
THIS is the most important one, IF IT ISN”T TOO HARD, TRY TO OPEN YOUR MIND AND PAY ATTENTION
p. 546
“While two may share two,
And one of two is certainly one,
One might be two.”
While two sons (Eragon and Murtagh) “may” share the same two parents (Morzan and Selena),
And one parent of two parents, the Mother-Selena, is certainly the same one parent of both sons,
One parent, the Father, might be two Fathers (Brom and Morzan) each having one of the sons.
What in the world could this riddle be about if it doesn’t support the two-father theory?
DON”T mess with me bcuz no matter what you say, no matter what argument you put out, I will just end up proving you WRONG
AND, when the third book comes out and I am right and you are wrong I will be just laughing about this…..
And, yes I think that someone who has read the books five times and still can’t see past the obvious must be an idiot.

i think that Eragon will go to the Vault of Souls and when he gets there he will have to speak his TRUE NAME to get in. When he does he will meet the spirits of dragonriders past. They will help to make him really powerful and perhaps will like join with him (they’ll like become one with him or whatever) so he will have the power to defeat galbatorix and if necessary, MURTAGH!!!
Hope I made some think and really REALLY ANNOYED some others!

i have a theory about the The Vault of Souls, its Location and its Contents
Once again, it’s time to look at what Solembum has told Eragon. “Then, when all seems lost and your power is insufficient, go to the rock of Kuthian and speak your name to open the Vault of Souls.”
Where is the Vault of Souls, first of all? Some say that it is on Doru Areaba, the great city of the riders. Others say that it is the Star Sapphire of Tronjheim. However, there is one location that seems much more likely: Helgrind.
Now, if you examine the description of Helgrind, you’ll notice that it looks strikingly similar to a rock formation in New Mexico known as Ship Rock. If you switch the words around a bit, you get… Rock of Ship. Looks a bit like the Rock of Kuthain, doesn’t it? The other reasons for Helgrind to be the likely location of the Rock of Kuthain become clear later, in the discussion of the contents of the Vault of Souls.
So, then we move onto the likely contents of the Vault of Souls. Sounds pretty basic, doesn’t it? It’s a vault… containing souls. But for what purpose, and from where? Remember when Eragon was fighting Murtagh? He discovers that Murtagh’s mind seemingly contains multitudes—multitudes of souls. So clearly, Murtagh is drawing his power from other souls along with his own, and if he was taught by Galbatorix, then it stands to reason that Galbatorix does, as well.
But where do the souls come from? Well, if we’re supposing that the Vault of Souls is in Helgrind, that immediately reminds us of another sinister pair of characters: the Ra’zac. Now, the Ra’zac are the king’s personal dragon hunters, and also are creatures meant to prey on humans. So, it’s clear that these Ra’zac do a lot of killing. But instead of letting all the power of a soul go to waste, why not find a way to store it, instead? Say, to use a spell that, instead of destroying the soul of those killed by the Ra’zac, instead stores it in a handy vault: a Vault of Souls. This explains why Galbatorix is seemingly impossibly getting stronger every year: every time the Ra’zac kill a person, that soul is added to the Vault and Galbatorix (and now Murtagh, as well) become more powerful. Of course, the Vault of Souls is also a physical place, so why not throw in any dragon eggs for safekeeping? Namely, that of the green dragon.
And said contents explain why opening the vault will be so important: not only will it give the Varden access to another dragon egg and soon another rider, but it will also make Galbatorix and Murtagh both substantially less powerful, and give Eragon a fair chance at beating one or both of them (with help from the green dragon’s rider, of course).

Finally, he reached the bottom floor. To get into the room, he had to pass through an arch. On the arch, it was written:
Only he who values the inside most
Will choose well; the
Girl inside is under a spell.
Find her portrait, and she will be free,
If not, she stays here for eternity.
Find the portrait, and she will wake:
Think hard, think well!
For only one can break
The spell.
Jake entered, gaping about him. There were three chests: a gold one, a silver one, and a copper one. Behind them was a girl, entirely encased in…diamond? Ice? Jake didn’t know.
“Values the inside,” muttered Jake. “Values the inside…”
That means don’t judge appearances, he realized. He walked to the gold case not that one, he decided. Not the silver, either. So that means…
He walked to the copper chest and opened it. Inside was a perfect likeness of the girl.
The diamond shattered. Jake looked up. There stood thee girl. She was quite pretty, in a dark sort of way. He hurried to bow.

i no wat u meen and iv egot some more theorys tho9 the’re nt written by me
Who will ride the Green dragon?
Everyone’s biggest question. First, will it be good or evil? That the green dragon and his rider will be on the good side is expected; if the green dragon were evil, the Varden wouldn’t stand a chance. There are several candidates for the third rider, so here’s the list, in order from least likely to most likely:
Orik
The least likely candidate I’ve seen proposed to be the rider of the green dragon. People say he should be the last rider because then there would be the human Murtagh, the “elf” Eragon, and then the dwarf Orik. Supporting this theory is Orik’s apparent lack of fear when it comes to flying and the presence of Saphira herself.
However, there is significant evidence against the theory, namely the fact that dwarves were not included in the spell that links the dragons to elves and humans, which is what allows human and elf riders to exist. You could say that just as humans were added to the spell, dwarves could be, as well. And while that is certainly possible, you must look at the likelihood of it actually happening. First of all, what cause would there be to add dwarves to the spell in the first place? No reason immediately presents itself. Along with this, why would the dwarves wish to be added to the spell? A vast majority of them have no interest in even the slightest contact with dragons, and they (or at least a few of them) are aware that the elves and humans are on the decline because of their connection to the dragons, so why would the dwarves want to be connected and thus possibly seal their own fate of declining?
Therefore, Orik will most likely not be the rider of the green dragon.
Elva
Only slightly more likely than Orik for the simple reason that she’s human, and thus it’s currently possible for her to become a rider. Evidence for her comes first in the form of the dragon-mark Saphira placed on her forehead, and second from Eragon’s blessing, which should bring her to do great things in her life.
However, even in her present, magically enhanced state, she is quite simply too young to be a rider, much less a useful one. Sure, maybe she could use her magic to make herself old enough, but you must keep in mind Eragon’s promise to Angela: that he would remove the blessing/curse that he placed over her. And once he removes the magic from her, she will once again be an infant child, and that would mean that she will have no contact with the dragon egg.
So maybe, if there are more dragon eggs in the future, Elva will become a rider later in life. But it’s incredibly unlikely that she will be the rider the green dragon.
A character that has yet to be introduced
It’s always possible that CP could introduce a new character in book three and have that character be the rider of the green dragon. However, this is highly unlikely because both of our present riders of the new generation, Eragon and Murtagh, were introduced in the first book and had already received significant character development by the time they were riders. If a new character were to become the rider of the green dragon with substantially less development than the other candidates… I’m sure that many of us would be less than satisfied.
So, it’s unlikely that any newly introduced character will be the rider of the green dragon.
Roran
Now we reach the group of four characters who are the most likely to become the rider of the green dragon. The main evidence people suggest for him is that, as Murtagh and Eragon apparently have the blood of a rider in them, Roran, who they claim also has the blood of a rider in him, should be one as well. This is wrong, however, as Roran is only related to Morzan (the rider he is supposedly getting blood from) because of Selena’s marriage to Morzan, and therefore does not have any blood relation to the man.
Counting against Roran is first the fact that he is human and second the fact that he is male. More on why being male counts against him will come later, but here is a good place to address why being a human is bad for his chances of being the rider of the green dragon. Now, Eragon spent about four months training with Brom and about ten months training with Oromis, and even after all that time and training, Murtagh was still able to beat him, with apparent ease. For Roran to be effective in battle, he would likely have to train for even longer that, and that’s an amount of time that the Varden just doesn’t have in this war. It’s likely that the Empire could win the war in that amount of time.
So, it’s possible but not probable that Roran will be the rider of the green dragon.
Nasuada
The third most likely choice for the rider of the green dragon. Nasuada is likely for several reasons: first, she’s female. Presently every rider that’s alive is male, a rather unbalanced situation. That makes the market for a female rider that much more open. Second, she’s the leader of the Varden, and being in such an important position, she’d likely have access to the egg, once stolen, before all members of the Varden aside from those who do the actual stealing. A third point some people bring up is that she could be related to Eragon and Murtagh (highly unlikely, borderline impossible—more on that in a moment), and because they are both riders, she should be as well.
The main argument against Nasuada is the simple fact that she’s human, as is the case with Roran above. But along with that, it must be considered that Nasuada commands the Varden’s armies. The Varden cannot afford for their army to be without a commander for such a length of time.
Now, to address why she cannot be related to Murtagh or Eragon: if she’s related to them, it’s obviously through Selena, as we know her father was Ajihad. However, it must be considered that, first of all, Nasuada and Murtagh are approximately the same age. Yes, I know that twins are possible, but how does a woman manage to have two children by two different fathers growing in her womb at the same time? Answer: it’s impossible. There’s more evidence, but after that explanation there’s really no need to elaborate. Nasuada is not at all related to Eragon and Murtagh.
So, it’s possible but not probable that Nasuada will be the rider of the green dragon.
Vanir
Vanir is likely for the same reason that Nasuada is unlikely: he is an elf. The fact that he is an elf means that he is already trained in the ways of magic, and that means that, were he to become the rider of the green dragon, he would need significantly less training than any human candidate.
Against Vanir is the fact that he is male. Not that this last dragon is sexist, but as Saphira has told Eragon, whoever she or Eragon loves will affect the feelings of the other. So if Saphira falls in love with the green dragon (which is very likely—more on that later), her love for the green dragon would cause Eragon to develop feelings towards the green dragon. However, because a human can’t have feelings of that sort for a dragon, his emotions would be directed towards someone more accessible: the green dragon’s rider. It does seem likely that Eragon will develop a relationship with someone in the third book, and even more likely that that someone will be the green rider, and that he will have a child with that partner, for that reason the third rider is likely to be female.
So, it’s possible that Vanir will be the rider of the green dragon.
Arya
Arya is the most likely candidate to become the rider of the green dragon. First, there is the fact that she is an elf, and a strong and talented elf at that. From what we’ve seen of her skills both with magic and with the sword, she would require very little training to be useful in battle, merely enough time for the green dragon to become mature enough to fight well in battle, which would be as soon as the green dragon learned to breathe fire, around six months after hatching. Along with that, Arya is female, and not just that but Eragon’s love interest. If Saphira were to fall in love with and mate with the green dragon, that would change Arya’s feelings for Eragon and the two of them would fall in love, as well. Third, two of the most often mentioned facts about Arya are her eye and magic color: emerald green. While eye color certainly has nothing to do with becoming a dragon rider, all of the riders we’ve seen so far in the trilogy have possessed magic the color of his dragon. While there is no evidence that this is always true, it can be interpreted as foreshadowing to her upcoming relation to the green dragon.
The main piece of evidence against Arya is that people claim she is too old. However, there is no evidence that there is a set age limit for becoming a rider, so such a point is meaningless.
So, it is highly likely that Arya will be the rider of the green dragon.

Hey, sorry Arya but I have heard that the last Dragon Rider will be Roran. I however want the rider to be Arya as well. She is a fierce warrior and is highly capable of helping Eragon defeat Galbatorix. She would make a great Dragon Rider!!!!!

Ah, Solembum’s words. “When the time comes and you need a weapon, look under the roots of the Menoa tree. But what will this weapon be?
Some say that Eragon has already received his weapon: his transformation at the Agaeti Blodhren. They say that he was under the Menoa tree when he was transformed, and because of this, the transformation was his weapon.
However, this is likely not the case for the simple reason that it does not match up with Solembum’s words. First, he must be looking for this weapon, and at that time he certainly was not attempting to find a weapon, he was just watching the ceremony. And along with this, the weapon may have been under the Menoa tree, but it was not under the roots of the Menoa tree, which Solembum specified as criteria for this weapon. So, his transformation likely was not the weapon.
No, it’s much more likely that the weapon will be just that: an actual, physical weapon. Say, a sword or, more specifically, Brom’s sword. Remember, it’s said that Brom lost his sword. Seems like an odd place to lose it, though, under a huge tree far from where the fighting during the Fall (the time when he most likely lost his sword) took place. But then, that’s why we must look someplace else: in this case, the dictionary.
Look at the definition for, “root.” In my dictionary, the #3 definition is the word, “origin.” Therefore, instead of looking under the physical roots themselves, Eragon must look to the origins of the Menoa tree: two old elven families, both of which are in possession of the swords of old riders that they salvaged from the wreckage of the battles of the Fall. One elven family will have Brom’s sword, which they will gladly give to Eragon when he comes to see them. As for the other elven family with a sword… They’ll give it the third rider, whose green dragon will match the sword in their possession.

Hear me out on this one. A lot of you are screaming one very misinformed and meaningless thing right now: “Murtagh said that Morzan was his father in the ancient language, and since you can’t lie in the ancient language, Morzan must be his father!” However, this is not at all true, and in reality Morzan is not Eragon’s father. It is Brom.
First, you must understand that it is possible to tell an untruth in the ancient language. You see, just because Murtagh said it in the AL doesn’t mean that it’s true, just that he believed it was true. That was the entire reason Eragon wrote a poem for the Agaeti Blodhren: so Islanzadi could tell Eragon that it was possible to tell untruths in the AL, if you really believed that they were true. So because Murtagh has seen no evidence showing that Eragon could not also be a son of Morzan, and because they do share a mother, he believes that Eragon was also the son of Morzan.
Now, for the extensive evidence:
P. 546
“Son and Father alike, both blind as bats”.
This is about betrayal. Brom was blind to Morzan’s betrayal, and Eragon was blind to Murtagh’s betrayal.
Consider this quote from page 280 of Eldest: (Oromis) “Morzan was my greatest failure. Brom idolized him. He never left his side, never contradicted him, and never believed that he could best Morzan in any venture. Morzan, I’m ashamed to admit-for it was within my power to stop-was aware of this and took advantage of Brom’s devotion in a hundred different ways. He grew so proud and cruel that I considered separating him from Brom. But before I could, Morzan helped Galbatorix to steal a dragon hatchling, Shruikan, to replace the one Galbatorix had lost, killing the dragon’s original rider in the process. Morzan and Galbatorix then fled together, sealing our doom.”
“You cannot begin to fathom the effect Morzan’s betrayal had on Brom until you understand the depth of Brom’s affection for him. And when Galbatorix at last revealed himself and the Forsworn killed Brom’s dragon, Brom focused all of his anger and pain on the one who he felt was responsible for the destruction of his world: Morzan.”
I think that sums it up.
Riddle #3 – This is the most important one
One last fact: Blagden never met Morzan so he could not have been talking about him. Morzan was never blind. He knew exactly what he was doing. He was after power. Brom was the only one who was blind by his insane idolization of Morzan.
Eragon pages 281-282:
While they spoke, Saphira crawled into the cave and greeted Eragon. She was glad to see him, but there was deep sadness in her thoughts and words. She laid her big blue head on the floor and asked, “Are you well again?”
“Not quite.”
“I miss the old one.”
“As do I… I never suspected that he was a rider. Brom! He really was an old man – as old as the Forsworn. Everything he taught me about magic he must have learned from the riders themselves.”
Saphira shifted slightly. “I knew what he was the moment he touched me at your farm.”
“And you didn’t tell me? Why?”
“He asked me not to,” she said simply.
Eragon decided not to make an issue of it. Saphira never meant to hurt him. “Brom kept more than that secret,” he told her, then explained about Zar’roc and Murtagh’s reaction to it. “I understand now why Brom didn’t explain Zar’roc’s origins when he gave it to me. If he had, I probably would have run away from him at the first opportunity.”
“You would do well to rid yourself of that sword,” she said with distaste. “I know it’s a peerless weapon, but you would be better off with a normal blade rather than Morzan’s butchery tool.”
“Perhaps. Saphira, where does our path go from here? Murtagh offered to come with us. I don’t know his past, but he seems honest enough. Should we go to the Varden now? Only I don’t know how to find them. Brom never told us.”
“He told me,” said Saphira.
Eragon grew angry. “Why did he trust you, but not me, with all this knowledge?”
Her scales rustled over the dry rock as she stood above him, eyes profound. “After we left Teirm and were attacked by the Urgals, he told me many things, some of which I will not speak of unless necessary. He was concerned about his own death and what would happen to you after it. One fact he imparted to me was the name of a man, Dormnad, who lives in Gil’ead. He can help us find the Varden. Brom also wanted you to know that of all the people in Alagaesia, he believed you were the best suited to inherit the Riders’ legacy.”
Tears welled in Eragon’s eyes. This was the highest praise he could have ever received from Brom. “A responsibility I will bear honorably.”
“Good.”
Clearly Brom has told Saphira of things that he wouldn’t want revealed to Eragon until he is mature enough. Eragon would undoubtedly be distraught enough after losing his mentor, and to find out that Brom is also his father would completely confuse and demoralize him at a time when survival is paramount.
Eldest page 656:
Saphira ruffled his hair with a gust of hot breath. “Just remember, whatever Brom’s reasons, he always tried to protect us from danger. He died saving you from the Ra’zac.”
“I know…. Do you think he didn’t tell me about this because he was afraid I might emulate Morzan, like Murtagh has?”
“Of course not.”
Plus, if you look at it from a logistical standpoint, you’ll notice two things: 1) Inheritance is a coming-of-age story/trilogy, and Eragon shouldn’t (and hasn’t) come of age by the end of the second book and 2) Christopher Paolini just dropped a huge bombshell a mere 4 pages ago that Morzan is Eragon’s father – that would be absolutely horrendous writing to reveal something like that and then change it 4 pages later. This “revelation” is the big twist at the end of the novel. It’s just that we’ll find out that it wasn’t really a twist after all.
There is a chapter in Eldest titled “Inheritance.” In it, Murtagh takes Zar’roc from Eragon and claims it as his inheritance. This conveniently leaves Eragon without a sword. In the third book Eragon will get his inheritance and his proper rider’s sword (meaning that it matches the color of his dragon).
We are never told what happens to Brom’s sword. It is only mentioned indirectly when Eragon converses with the elf sword maker Rhunon. She mentions that there are only two of her swords left (other than Morzan’s and Oromis’), and they happen to each be held by two elven families. One is Brom’s, and the other is likely a green sword that will go to the rider of the green dragon.
This makes Brom’s sword Eragon’s inheritance, and this is the Inheritance Trilogy, after all.
However, there are some other questions that must still be answered. For example, why, if Brom was Eragon’s father, would he not raise his own son while both live in Carvahall? And why would Brom never tell Eragon that he was his father?
In response to those two questions: there was no evidence whatsoever to imply that Eragon would be a rider in his early life. Brom was there in Carvahall to watch over him, and he did teach his son all about the old ways. When Eragon went to Brom’s to ask him questions about the riders Brom answered all of his questions. One of the best ways to teach is through stories, and in order to have Eragon learn more he had to be interested in riders and their history. I also think that if Brom said that he was Eragon’s father and a Rider, Eragon would be a whole lot less likely to believe that the riders really did exist and that they had fallen. If you’re told that all of the riders are dead, except that this ordinary storyteller that everyone’s known for 15 years is one, the stories would be a whole lot less credible.
There’s also the fact that if Brom told Eragon that he was his father, other people in Carvahall would probably find out and word of it might leak back to Galbatorix. If Galbatorix found out that the last remaining rider and his son were living in Carvahall, I believe he would have left Uru’baen and gone out to destroy the village.
Thirdly, if Eragon knew that Brom was his father, he could possibly reveal it when someone enters his head (like the twins) and the odds were reasonable (and it actually happened in the book) that the one(s) who find out that Eragon is Brom’s son worked for Galbatorix. If Galbatorix found out that the newest rider that wasn’t under his control was the son of Brom, he would have to assume that he was raised by Brom, and was the beneficiary of a lifetime of teaching by Brom. Since we know Brom was powerful and strong enough to have a hand in the deaths of eight of the Forsworn, his lifetime knowledge passed down to his son would make Eragon a much more deadly enemy than if Eragon was raised by a random farmer and never had any contact with Brom. If Galbatorix believed that Eragon was Brom’s son, he himself would have flown to the battle at the end of Eldest, and it would have been a forgone conclusion.
And the big question: if Brom is indeed Eragon’s father, then how on earth would he and Selena have a chance to “make” Eragon?
The potential for an affair comes to mind, or for a king Arthur-type situation. Or, as we don’t know exactly how long Selena was missing from the castle (“many months” is a very unclear length of time), she could have met Brom and fallen in love with him after running from the castle. Bear in mind that around the time of Selena’s disappearance, Morzan was off searching for Saphira’s egg, which had just been stolen, so would not have been around the castle or seeing Selena at any time. And that give Brom ample opportunity to see her.

Remember these? Just before his death, Brom tells Eragon seven words in the ancient language, then what they mean, and then he tells them only to use the words in great need. What these words could possibly be, however, is open to much interpretation.
The first theory is that these words are Eragon’s (or someone else’s) true name, yet this is unlikely for many reasons, first because seven words is far too long to be a person’s name, second because telling a person their true name can be incredibly dangerous, and third, how on earth would Brom know? Instead of that, it could be possible that these words have something to do with the Menoa tree, perhaps a way to communicate with it in some way. However, this seems unlikely because something like that would be more of an interest than something that should only be used in great need. Another theory is that the seven words are some sort of password to be told to the family in possession of Brom’s sword so they will know to give it to Eragon, but again, that does not sound like something that should be used, “only in great need.”
Another possibility is that what Brom told him is a spell that human dragon riders could use to boost their physical attributes to become equal to those of an elf, or perhaps the enchantments that Oromis uses to keep himself alive despite his sickness or how elves can sing to trees and other plants. That would explain why no elf knew of (or planned to teach Eragon) these spells, but Brom did. This seems unlikely, however, because Eragon has already had his attributes boosted to match those of an elf (thus making Brom’s words useless) and singing to trees doesn’t seem to be a very useful ability and especially not one that should only be used when the need is great.
The most likely (and simplest) explanation, of course, is that these seven words are a very powerful spell (of either destruction or healing) that, unfortunately, has a terrible energy cost or other price attached to it that means the spell should only be used in the most dire of situations. Of the two choices, destruction is much more likely.
The New Dwarf King
The question here is simple: Orik or someone else? The other dwarves seemed to be against Hrothgar and his pro-dragon policies; as Orik also seems pro-dragon, likely the other clan leaders (as Orik is Hrothgar’s heir, he will take control of Durgrimst Ingietum) will vote for one other than Orik as new king.
Unless, of course, something happens to change their minds before the election takes place. Now, it will be a while before a new dwarf king will be elected, as Hrothgar must be buried first, and he will have a long way to travel before he can be laid to rest. That gives Eragon and Saphira ample opportunity to do a variety of things, one of which will be Saphira healing the star sapphire. After Saphira fixes, “the heart of Tronjheim,” that likely will change the hearts of the dwarven clan leaders and cause them to act in the interest of their now pro-dragon people: to elect a pro-dragon candidate. And that candidate would be none other than Orik. However, the clan leaders likely will not act as one, and it will shape up to be a rather messy election.
So, expect Orik to become the king of his people, but the process may not be pretty.
Eragon’s Love
Who will Eragon fall in love with? It’s part of Angela’s prediction, that, “an epic romance is in your future, extraordinary, as the moon indicates—for that is a magical symbol—and strong enough to outlast empires. I cannot say if this passion will end happily, but your love is of noble birth and heritage. She is wise, powerful, and beautiful beyond compare.” So, there are two possibilities: either he will fall in love with Arya, or he will not.
If he does not fall in love with Arya, than who with? Or will he fall in love again at all? Some people claim that he will fall in love with Katrina, but that is simply idiotic: why on earth would he fall in love with a person who is already engaged to his brother? It makes no sense. Eragon will not fall in love with Katrina.
Another option, slightly more likely, is Nasuada. People have said that because Arya does not return Eragon’s love, it does not qualify as romance and therefore his epic romance is still to come. They also claim that she would fulfill the prophecy because, as leader of the Varden, she is certainly noble. However, this is not correct, for the prophecy reads, “of noble birth and heritage,” meaning that Nasuada would have to be born into nobility to fulfill it, and as she was merely born to a man who was fleeing from the empire and not some manner of royalty. But regardless of the prophecy, it still seems unlikely that Eragon and Nasuada will fall in love. After all, Nasuada has a rebellion to lead, and falling in love with one of her vassals is certainly going to disrupt the war effort.
And of course, the possibility remains that Eragon will never fall in love after ending his pursuit of Arya. But I believe that we will see more evidence connected to other theories that makes this option also very unlikely.
Now, it is of course the most likely that his love for Arya is the fulfillment of the prophecy, and when Saphira mates with the green dragon, ridden by Arya, that will influence Arya to fall in love with Eragon, and there will be the epic romance. And, of course, because they are both riders and therefore understand each other perfectly, this romance will have a happy result.

One of the most important questions concerning the future of Alagaesia: who will be Saphira’s mate? There are five possibilities, some more likely than others.
The first and least likely is Glaedr. The argument for him is that he is the only male dragon currently on the same side as Saphira, so when the situation begins to look bleak the two of them will have to mate to sustain their race. However, Glaedr has already refused Saphira once, and likely she’s learned her lesson and won’t try again.
Another possibility is that Saphira and Eragon will search for wild dragons, and Saphira will find one willing to be her mate. However, Saphira and Eragon are going to be busy with a war, and will have no time to go and search for other dragons, making this option also unlikely. It is possible that they could search after the war, there is another theory that essentially disproves this that I’ll get to later.
Thorn and Shruikan have pretty much the same chance, but the only real way for Saphira to mate with either of them would be if she were captured by Galbatorix. If captured, Saphira would be forced to mate with one of them, and there’s no way Saphira is strong enough to resist them. This is quite possible, but considering CP’s plot so far, it is not as likely as…
Saphira falling in love with the green dragon. Varden gets egg, egg hatches, green dragon matures, falls in love with Saphira, they mate. Sounds simple, is simple. If Saphira wants a mate on her side of the war and Glaedr isn’t going to, the only option for her is the green dragon.
The green dragon and Thorn or Shruikan are both equally likely based on the evidence, so you have to consider which is more likely based on what CP has written so far. Now, so far, nothing bad has happened to Saphira. That can mean one of two things: either nothing will happen to her, or she’s due for something bad to happen. But it’s more likely that nothing bad will happen to her, and she will fall in love and mate with the green dragon.
Who Will Die?
Who, exactly, of the major characters, is going to die? Obviously Galbatorix will; that goes without saying. It’s highly likely that Oromis and Glaedr will as well, Oromis from his mysterious disease and Glaedr from Oromis’ death. People also seem to think that Thorn will die, but Murtagh will not. It is certainly possible, as Murtagh is on the side of evil (if reluctantly), but Galbatorix will not make the mistake of leaving loopholes in his oaths again. That means that if Eragon and Murtagh meet again in battle, Eragon will be unable to show Murtagh any mercy. It is likely that Thorn will die, and Murtagh may as well, that is unclear. Whether the king’s dragon, Shruikan, will die is another debate. Some think that he will die along with Galbatorix, while others think that, because Galbatorix was not Shruikan’s original rider, the bond between the two will be weaker than normal, meaning that Shruikan will not only survive Galbatorix’s death but become good upon the death of his surrogate rider. As we have not yet seen Galbatorix or Shruikan, we cannot determine the strength of their bond and thus cannot determine the answer to this question, one way or another. However, Shruikan dying with his rider is more likely.
One of the strangest—and, even stranger, most popular—death theories is that Arya will die. But seriously, people. One of the most obvious things in this entire trilogy is that Arya will be the rider of the green dragon. And if she is that green dragon’s rider, and we know that there are two dragons in the sky in Eragon’s dream before Garrow’s death (more on that dream later, but it is rather obvious foreshadowing for the last scene of book three), that means that the riders of those two dragons (Saphira and the green dragon) must survive the war, and therefore Eragon and Arya will survive. And while we’re on the subject of main characters’ love interests dying, Katrina won’t die, either.
Of course, there will be some other casualties, namely a bunch of minor characters: several high-ranking Varden members (likely including Nasuada and Orrin), unimportant elves and servants of Galbatorix, villagers, etc.
Who Will Kill Galbatorix?
Yes, believe it or not, there are dissenting opinions regarding the answer to this question. The choice for Galbatorix’s killer is split between two people, one very obvious and one… rather odd: Eragon and Shruikan (if you think Murtagh will kill Galbatorix by throwing him into a bottomless pit filled with glowing blue electricity, please, for the sake of all mankind, commit hara-kiri… now).
Some people seem to think that Shruikan will turn good at the last moment possible and kill Galbatorix, typically by squishing him. However, this is highly unlikely. Regardless of how Shruikan originally felt about Galbatorix, the two of them have now been joined for a hundred years. Considering how much the two of them have been though in that time, it’s quite obvious that they care quite a lot for each other, and therefore Shruikan will not kill Galbatorix.
So that leaves one man to be Galbatorix’s killer: Eragon. As it should be.

The Ultimate Book Three Theory List
Written for Shurtugal.com by Carnoc
The views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views of Shurtugal.com or its staff.
All right. A lot of people have a lot of different ideas for what is going to happen in book three. This is a list of all the reasonable theories I’ve come across in my long experience at Inheritance Forums, along with the evidence supporting and (sometimes) refuting them all.
A list of the theories I will be discussing:
The identity of the third rider
The weapon under the Menoa Tree
The Vault of Souls, its location and its contents
The true identity of Eragon’s father
Brom’s seven words
The new dwarf king
Eragon’s love
Saphira’s mate
Who will die?
Who will kill Galbatorix?
The new king of Alagaesia
What will happen at the end of the book?
Questions? Objections? More theories you want me to address? You are also free to contact a Shurtugal Staff member via the feedback form
So, without further ado, let’s jump right into the thick of things:
The Weapon Under the Menoa Tree
The Vault of Souls, its Location and its Contents
The True Identity of Eragon’s Father
Riddle #3 – This is the most important one
Brom’s Seven Words
Saphira’s Mate
The New Ruler of Alagaesia
With Galbatorix dead, who will rule Alagaesia in his place? It clearly will not be Eragon, for he will leave Alagaesia forever, as Angela predicted, and how can he rule a place when he is no longer there? And besides that, he has already expressed that he does not want to rule.
The new ruler will not be an elf or dwarf. They already have their own rulers in their own kingdoms, so that just leaves the humans to decide who will rule. So to determine that, we must look to the past rulers of humans in Alagaesia: king Palancar and his descendants. And where did the descendants of Palancar dwell before they were driven out by the soldiers of the king? Palancar valley or, more specifically, Carvahall. So, who is in charge of Carvahall? Roran. So he will rule Alagaesia as his ancestors did, with Katrina as his queen.

here is some of it
Title
Marie Lou Secret Service
The case of the new neighbors
Marie watched attentively out her bedroom window as the dirty white moving truck quickly pulled away leaving behind a cloud of gray smoke. It had a large sign saying MOE’S MOVERS in bold orange letters. She watched it turn to the corner and leave. All of a sudden a finger tapped her shoulder. It was her best friend Shea Robinson. She shouted in surprise “EEEK!” Shea laughed at her friend’s response. “So what’cha doing Sherlock? Any new cases?” Marie said to her friend as she showed her a week old newspaper “The museum of American history had a small portrait of George Washington that was worth millions. It disappeared exactly a week before today and now the old leaky house next door was sold and we have new neighbors. There is something wrong with that picture. No one wanted to buy that ancient rickety shack six months ago after that old cat-lady died. Everyone thought it was haunted. So I was wondering if this guy has anything to do with the disappearance of a very valuable historical artifact. I’m taking this case free of charge” Shea responded “There is nothing on this green Earth that will make me take this case with you. Even the cops don’t have a clue to where the suspect is or how they could have escaped. How are we supposed to find the bad guys?! We are dealing with the BLAK MARCKET here not just some kiddy crap. We won’t even get paid!” Marie contemplated on her friends words for a while then finally retaliated “Coward. We could have been heroes. I guess I’ll have all the fame and fortune.” She knew this new case would be a challenge, very different from the lost toys and who ate the last cookie cases she had done before. This one actually involved a felony. She needed al the help she could get. Shea agreed to one condition, if anything goes wrong it’s all Marie’s fault. Marie knew her friend wouldn’t do that to her, but Shea would have felt better if that was decided. That evening Marie made cookies and brought them to the old house to greet the new neighbors. Wink, wink. This tall man with dark brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, bushy black eye brows that seemed to always frown, a blue T-shirt, and jeans, suddenly opened the door after Marie had only knocked on the door once. He had a suspicious look in his eye. Marie introduced herself and he told her his name. He accepted the cookies and rather rudely departed back into the house rapidly but not fast enough to hide a large trunk that he had been haggling about where to put it with the movers earlier. It was covered to conceal its identity with a white canvas but was taken off now. Marie rapidly wrote down some notes in her hand held red notepad:
Case of the new neighbors
Employee: me
Questions: What did Mr. Flimhouse put in the trunk? And
Does it have anything to do with the stolen artifact in museum a week ago?

May 10, 2007 at 11:55 pm
greetings in puerto rico!!!
got a theory just 2 PO ebrithil:
consider Eragon’s name; that of the first dragon rider….
in eragon its implied that next to nobody knows about the riders…
so, if Brom was eragons father, it would make perfect sence, since brom was a rider,2!!!
May 10, 2007 at 11:55 pm
mom is starting to nag me to get off. i have to leave. see ya tomorrow.
May 10, 2007 at 11:57 pm

May 11, 2007 at 12:04 am
yeh,really…
dwarf girl, i think galby knew murtough would tell eragon who he THOUGHT their father was, so i think
a) he mighta done it to devistate eragon (if this is the case, it WORKED)
or
b) he doesnt know that brom is eragons dad
ithink it was a
BTW, u can call me brom- thats what my school friends call me :0
&)
May 11, 2007 at 12:06 am

k bye now! C U L8R
May 11, 2007 at 12:57 am
Were you talking about me being a boy? I am not! That’s why on the other site I was so mad at someone saying a girl can’t be a rider. I live in Oregon and I’m 12. I hate it here, too much rain. I love it, Dwarf Girl!! My story is about twins who hardly knew anything about their life and they thought that their dad was dead, but one day he showed up and took them away from Earth to a land called Shacana and find out that their dragon riders. It doesn’t have a title. I love sites where people just talk about what they like. I’ll come back later. And you guys talk a lot!! It wasn’t like I left and came back tomorrow, it was just a few hours.
Vollar Hljodhrc
May 11, 2007 at 1:00 am
Lucky… you get puppies! I watch football sometimes. I love old cars. I’m not what some girls would call normal. Almost every girl I meet is like “Where’s your makeup? You need to do something with your hair” and stuff. And I say “Dude, it’s just blah” A LOT… I hope you didn’t go yet, DR. Well, I’ll stay on just in case.
May 11, 2007 at 1:09 am
dont worry im 16 so i should feel left out
May 11, 2007 at 1:12 am
Vollar Hljodhrc (i finally spelled it right) SO SORRY. idk, i gues i just assumed you were a guy. I AM SO SORRY. My dad has a mustang (i can’t recall the year) but it is AWSOME. he is off racing in SLC right now. I agree on the every girl is all about clothes, hair, and boys. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!
May 11, 2007 at 1:14 am
Don’t take this offensively, but your “voice” sounds like a guy. just the words you use, the way u say things. I really am sorry tho. PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!!!
May 11, 2007 at 1:18 am
There’s nothing to forgive. It’s the computer, anyone can make mistakes. I just try to use proper grammar so I don’t misspell words in my story. I thought you were a guy for the longest time, too(no offense). I’m glad I can “talk” to you anyway.
May 11, 2007 at 1:24 am
Ok, this is one of my stories. It is a prologue. Tell me what you all think of it! AND if you have any suggestions on a title, i am wide open…..
**************************************************************
Prologue: Attack
The moon shone brightly on the large city of Drega. A deep silence made the air clear and sharp. A dark shadow rose up and broke off from the horizon, continuing into the sky till it rose up in front of the moon, casting shadows darkly throughout the city. It dove down sharply; streamlining towards the city. A horn bugled somewhere in the distance and the streets came alive with light and sound. Men jumped into action, grabbing weapons and armor. The creature still came down, gaining speed as it went. More rose up behind it, all heading in a strait dive for the city.
A horrific roar erupted from out of the ground. A metal grate in the center of the city opened slowly and people fled from the town square. Flames burst out of the hole and two dozen dragons sprang out, flapping their wings and gaining altitude as they went. The men on their backs wielded thick spears and sat upon clean leather saddles. The enemy creatures slammed into the dragons, panic erupted as more landed in the city.
They seemed to be made of shadow, disappearing into smoke and dust as soon as their riders dismounted. The soldiers on the ground attacked the unwelcome intruders, hacking and killing all in their path. Roars ripped through the night. In all the chaos and panic, no one noticed the cloaked figure slinking in the allies towards the magician’s quarters.
The fighting continued, cries of men and beasts shredded the darkness. Screams filled the air. Blasts of blue flame shot from the windows of a think wall surrounding the city as magicians and sorcerers blasted at the shadow creatures and the dark men on the ground.
“We can’t hold them off for much longer!” cried a young magician to his master. “They’re everywhere and we don’t have enough magicians to keep them back, we need to do something.”
Just then a shrill note pierced the night sky and people fell to the ground holding their ears. The creatures and the enemy warriors began to retreat. The shadow creatures exploded seemingly from thin air and their riders jumped upon them. Their wings gusted air into the city and they all took off at once. The ones in the air lead the way off into the distance.
All was silent once more. The streets were littered with spilled goods and the still bodies of men who had died in battle. In the walls, magicians were lying on the floor, exhausted by their efforts to protect and secure the city. A loud clattering came ringing down the long hall and they all jumped to their feet, immediately alert for any sign of enemy attack. It was the head sorcerer.
He cried out to the assembled warlocks, “They’ve taken him! My apprentice! They have him!” He was practically in hysterics……….
**************************************************************
I have a bit more, but that is for l8r. I also have another one, like I said, it is called DragonChild. I will submit that one later.
May 11, 2007 at 1:24 am
I know! I hate those people! I love mustangs, its just some of the people who drive them. Most of them just look like they think that their king/queen of the world. I don’t think that your dad would be completely different, though. What’s your real name? You don’t have to answer, just wondering. My name is Nikki.
May 11, 2007 at 1:26 am

****************************************************************
The bell rang for school to begin.
“Another day like any other”, said Rose to Sky. However, she was wrong; today their life was going to change forever…
It was lunch, the twins, Rose and Sky, sat down. They were talking about how much they wanted a snowstorm, middle of summer or not.
As they started to get up, Chelsea, the most popular girl in school, pushed them back into their seats.
“In case you don’t remember”, she said in her sneering sort of voice, “I go first all the time unless I say”, Rose was about to punch her, give her a bloody nose and a fat lip. No make-up could hide that.
However, the bell to get their stuff for fourth period rang.
“Don’t forget your essay must be at least five paragraphs long”, said Mrs. Brown, the language arts teacher.
Sky gave Rose a ‘Will this class ever end?’ kind of look.
Then suddenly there was something that nearly hit their heads, missing by a hair’s breadth. It hit the wall instead, as if the wall suddenly had a branch.
*************************************************************
My family isn’t really big with cars, and I just kinda like them. I don’t know anything about engines. I just pay attention to the body. I LOVE Buicks, though. But what do you think of my story?

May 11, 2007 at 3:55 am
DR~Are the dragons, like, evil? Or are they helping poor villagers that were banished from their town?
May 11, 2007 at 4:49 am
Your story was good! It was a really good start. In my story the dragons are like protectors of the city. they won’t play a HUGE part in this story, they are more of a background info thing. The SHADOW CREATURES though, are like the equivilent to dragons but made of shadow and evil spells. MORE ON THIS L8R And I like you, only pay attention to teh body of the car. the engine doesn’t matter to me unless it is really fast! I think this site should be like an IM site.
Love the books~ I have never had official lessons, but i know how to control the horse. (I can stay really calm even if the horse is freaking out. once a horse ran into a fence(it was a retarded horse i swear) and it totally fell over, but somehow i managed to get off without being crushed in about 2 seconds. then i was just checking out the horse to make sure he was ok) newayz. i know how to do the basics, rollbacks, barrels, poles, etc. and i LOVE to go fast!!!! I started jumping, and i was really good at it, but then i quit lessons. In the end, although i love horses, i am more of the musical type. i play 2 instruments.
K PEOPLE ITS LATE MY TIME AND I G2G TO BED! C U ALL TOMORROW!

“My goodness” yelled Kelsey looking out from her bed room window. “How much longer can it keep snowing like this?” It was already 6 o’clock and had snowed nonstop since the night before. Kelsey leaned over her bedside table hitting her alarm clock. And now for your local school delays” announced the weather forecaster. “It seems even with all the snow we won’t be seeing to many delays or cancellations for the local Spring Valley schools” “Great” Kelsey said under her breath. Ever since she could remember her father had worked for the local weather station. She had often told her mother “well if he can’t change the weather once in a while what’s the point in telling what it’s going to do?” Reluctantly Kelsey got out of the warmth of her bed and made her way to her burrow. Pulling out a white long sleeve shirt and brown sweat pants she mumbled to herself “just once I wish they would cancel school on blasted days like this” School was a dreaded thing for Kelsey, as for most teenage boys and girls, but it was especially hard for her. Ever since she began school she had been made fun of, for on her left shoulder was a triangular tattoo like mark. Her parents nor doctor could come to any other conclusion besides that it was a tattoo printed on her when she was a baby. For that tattoo was the cause of all her problems because of it she was called names and people wanted as little to do with her as possible. After throwing on her clothes and brushing her teeth and hair she made her way downstairs. Kelsey came over to the dining table and plopped down in one of the chairs.

anyone else that has feedback feel free to tell me what u think of my little blurp of writing
May 13, 2007 at 2:31 pm
That was really interesting. Do you have a whole story plot, conflict etc yet? Do you already know what that tattoo thing is??? That is really good. Ok, excuse me if you think I am a total IDIOT, but what the frikin crap is a BURROW!?!?!?! I’m sorry if you live in a place where that is a common word. The only place I have ever heard it is in Harry Potter for where the Weasleys live……”The Burrow” WHAT IS A BURROW!!!!!
I live in the USA so, we don’t have a bunch of (don’t be offended) abnormal words…..! JKJKJKJKWell actually we kinda do. Well, not that I can think of, but I am SURE that if I looked in a dictionary I could find some frikin wierd American words that are just totally dumb. Newayz, sorry if that was a big deal about nothin.
BUT GOOD START TO YOUR STORY!!!!
Aiedail ez Risaen

Story
“My goodness!” yelled Kelsey looking out from her bed room window. “How much longer can it keep snowing like this?” It was already 6 am. and had snowed nonstop since the night before. Kelsey leaned over her bedside table hitting her alarm clock. And now for your local school delays” announced the weather forecaster. “It seems with all the snow accumulations we will be seeing a lot of cancellations and delays for the New Jersey Spring Valley area. Carington Elementary will be seeing delays, as well as Eliot High, Marlon Middle School….”
“Yeah but what about Burkhume Middle School?” Kelsey thought growing impatient
“Spring Valley High and Burkhume Middle School will be seeing cancellations …”
“Finally!” she said pulling her down comforter over her head and letting sleep take over. By the time Kelsey woke up it was 9:30 and her room was like the inside of a conventional oven. Rubbing the sleep from her eye’s she flung the sheets off her and made her way down stairs. Her mother Mary ann. was in the kitchen. Kelsey always admired her mother’s cheery personality. No matter what was wrong she was always looking on the bright side of things. It annoyed Kelsey sometimes because when she was feeling upset and just wanted to sit in her sorrow her mother would always act all positive about the situation and try to make it better, which didn’t help if you wanted to feel sorry for yourself.
“Good morning”
“Hi” Kelsey said plopping down into one of the dining room chairs.
“I bet you’re glad you don’t have school”
“Yeah it’s about time”
“There have been a lot of times when school has been canceled”
“Well not enough”
“Well breakfast is ready. I have to run of to the butcher and get some lamb for diner with the Ames, but I won’t be long
“Ughhhhh is Lacey coming?”
“As far as I know.” Why do you dislike her so much?”
“Because she’s evil”
“Well she is coming so I expect you to be polite” deciding it was pointless to argue with her mom Kelsey just bent her head and started eating the food on her plate. As soon as her mother left Kelsey went up to her room and closed the door. Lacey and Kelsey had been best friends for a long time but now Lacey was popular and Kelsey hated her. It had all started when she was little. When Kelsey was a little baby her real parents didn’t want her so they gave her up for adoption. There Mary ann. And her husband, don, adopted Kelsey. Kelsey was just like any other girl. She had brown straight hair, and blue eyes, you could even go as far as to say that she was beautiful but one thing kept her distinguished from others, a triangular tattoo on her left shoulder. As far as her parents or doctor knew it was printed on her when she was a baby, but for what reason no one knew. This tattoo was the root of al her problems. During a pool party in second grade lacey saw Kelsey’s tattoo and told every one about it. From there on every one called her names and considered her eerie and weird. And now since Lacey was popular it made the bulling even worse. The only one who didn’t tease her was Jordan, the new girl in school. Jordan was pretty and was accepted into the popular group in no time, but unlike all the other people when Jordan met Kelsey popularity didn’t matter and neither did the little tattoo.

i liked the new one more. it explains things better like her family history and were the name calling started. it also explains why nobody knows about the tattoo on her shoulder. it shows one of the conflicts, if not the conflict, of the story.
May 15, 2007 at 12:57 am

I AM SO SICK OF THE WIND!!!!!!!!!!!!It is totally driving me crazy….! The Alex Rider Series is good. The author is Anthony Horowitz. They are really good. NEWAYZ> I really think that Brom is Eragon’s father, so when eragon was going to be born, Selena decided to leave him with dear brother Garrow, this way morzan would not be able to get mad or harm Eragon. NOT TO MENTION THAT IF SAPHIRA HAD HATCHED FOR ERAGON AND HE HAD BEEN WITH MORZAN THEN HE WOULD BE SERVING GALBATORIX! and so selena and brom brought soon to be born eragon to carvahall where they agreed on a name and selena left brom to watch over eragon from a distance while he safely grew up. In ERAGON brom would act towards eragon in fatherly……..ways.
SO SORRY IF YOU DISAGREE WITH MY OPINIONS!!!!!!!!

May 19, 2007 at 1:55 pm
Ok This is chapter one of my story(the one without a name) (it is kinda long) and I am putting the prologue on here again cuz’ i wrote like 2 more paragraphs on it.
It was the Head Warlock.
He cried out to the assembled warlocks, “They’ve taken him! My apprentice! They have him!” He was practically in hysterics. The Head Warlock’s apprentice had been taken.
The boy, Zool, was very powerful. Drega was a city of magic. It was full of warlocks, magicians, sorcerers, witches, and wizards, but no one had ever seen a boy like Zool. As a child he had been able to do amazing things with only his instincts. Everyone was curious to know what he could do when he was fully trained. Many believed that he would be the salvation of their city. One who would defeat the dreaded Zachairians. Others had believed him to be too powerful. Some even thought he should be killed, for fear that he would one day use his strange magic and turn on the city. They said he would grow power hungry, and would let his ambitions take him too far, but no one had anticipated this.
Because of Zool’s power, he had been kept secret from the rest of the country, but apparently the city’s secret had leaked out. And, by some misfortune, it had reached the Zachairian King.
As light peaked out from behind the Erratia Mountains, fear shrouded the city in a blanket of despair. Darkness covered the city and for a time they all lived in terror , yet all things pass. Soon Zool was forgotten. The Head Warlock acquired a new apprentice and all went on as normal.
The battle was a lost and forgotten memory, lurking in the shadows and hiding from the daylight. No one brought it up and everyone was happy to leave it as it was. It just hurt too much to remember how their hopes had been dashed when he had been taken. Herein lay Drega’s mistake. They would later regret forgetting. They would wish that Zool had never been taken. But why remember when it is so easy to forget……
Chapter One: ??????
12 years later
Now, repeat the exercise.”
“I’ve done it nearly 23 times, it won’t get any better if I wear myself out.”
“I don’t care if you’ve done it 1000 times. You will do it again, and you will keep doing it till you get it right!”
Zool concentrated on the spell. He felt the magic running through him. It sent a shiver down his spine and gave him a feeling of power. He loved this feeling. It sent a thrill through him every time he did a spell. It felt like there was so much more that he wasn’t even acknowledging. He was getting sidetracked again. He concentrated even harder. He let all his frustration and anger fuel the magic.
“Zedrah fald’in rezca mroelsta!”, Zool yelled. His voice echoed around the room. He was aware of Kedfer watching him closely. A bright burst of deep red magic shot from his hands and flowed around the room. The red magic tinged the dark walls and made them look crimson. It made Zool think of blood.
The magic flowed around him and quickly began to gather in the center of the large circular room. It pulsated and grew larger. A head began to form. Legs and a torso soon followed. Zool watched in amazement as wings sprouted. Finally it stopped growing. The magic grew dark. The creature was black as a moonless night with eyes that burned with a red fire. Shadow flowed around the monster. It stood still, its slanted eyes staring at zool. A long tail lashed on the ground.
“Excellent! This beast is the most perfect specimen ever made by a youth since the days of Ragnoar. And it only took you 24 tries. For most young magicians it takes near 100 attempts to get it perfected. It will serve you and you alone, unless you tell it otherwise. It is the equivalent of a dragon, but more durable. It is called a Fal’zore. It will return to the Darkness when you instruct it to do so, and when you wish it to return to you, you simply utter the spell and it will appear.” Kedfer was clearly excited. Probably because it would reflect well on him, thought Zool.
The Fal’zore growled deeply when Kedfer approached it and he jumped back quickly. Then he walked over to Zool. He spoke swiftly with a very serious voice. “It will protect you against anything to the very extent of its powers for it knows no fear. You must learn how to control it on your own. It must be taught to stay with you anc be cautious. You must give it a name so that you can identify it as your own. In a battle, everyone will have a Fal’zore so you must be able to find yours. Do you understand?”
“I do, Master Kedfer.”, Zool said absently. Kedfer gazed at the creature and then put a hand on Zool’s shoulder.
“I’m proud of you Zool.”, he said softly. Zool heard his footsteps approach the door. It opened quietly, then it closed with a loud click. For almost a minute Zool did nothing. He just stood, staring at the thing he had brought out from the Darkness. Slowly, he walked over to the Fal’zore. It didn’t growl at him like it had to Kedfer. It just watched him with those burning eyes. Zool placed a hand on its shoulder. The muscles under the skin were defined and strong. The skin itself was thin and soft but it was also like a strong piece of leather. It was a very interesting texture. Zool admired the shape of his Fal’zore’s legs and neck. The nicely curved wings and talons. He even examined the teeth which were a shiny black metal like substance. It’s head was horse-like , but with more reptilian features. It’s two front teeth stood out long and dangerously sharp.
“Dragon’s can breath fire, can you do that?”, Zool said to the creature. He didn’t expect and answer so when the Fal’zore opened his mouth, Zool jumped back. A jet of flame exploded out of the Fal’zore’s mouth. It burned with the intensity of a volcano, but Zool felt no pain. Fire burned around the edges of the room momentarily before dying down. Zool rapidly checked himself for any burns or singed clothing, but as he had expected there were none.
“A name. A name, what’s a good name…..?”, Zool said in a hushed voice as he paced around the Fal’zore, looking him over and examining him carefully. “Zendor. That is your name.”, Zool said abruptly. He turned to the Fal’zore. “Zendor means ‘above all’ so it would fit you if you are as good as Kedfer says, and Kedfer has never lied to me before.”
Zool placed a hand on Zendor’s forehead and he made a throaty growl that was almost a purr. Zool assumed that it was a show of affection or enjoyment. All of a sudden Zendor’s head swung to the left towards the door. Not five seconds later the door opened admitting a short, bald man in a black robe into the room.
“King Zorm wishes an audience with you immediately.”, his voice was whiny and high-pitched.
“Yes, I’ll be there in a moment.” Zool spoke with an edge to his voice and his response was sharp.
“He wishes to see you immediately….”, he emphasized immediately and paused, waiting for a response. Zool stood for a moment, wondering wether to go, or to keep the King waiting. The King was impatient so he decided he had best go. Besides, maybe he would get honored for his fine work.
“Return to the Darkness until called to me for your service.”, Zool commanded Zendor. He respectfully inclined his head to Zool and burst in to a cloud of black magic. It settled in a cloud on the floor around Zool’s feet before vanishing completely. He turned to see the messenger tapping his foot and looking annoyed.
“Follow me.”, he said curtly. Zool followed the little man. He used a simple spell he learned years ago to glean some information about the robed man from his simple mind. His name was Reggin and he was a lower councilor in the king’s court. He was stuffy, rude, and thought he should be the king’s official First Councilor. He is a very boring person, Zool concluded.
As they passed the hall where Zool’s room was located a thought occurred to him and he paused. Reggin turned to see why he had stopped and began tapping his foot again.
“Might I get dressed in more suitable clothing?”, Zool gestured to his simple tunic, black pants, boots, and leather belt. Reggin was clearly hesitant to let him take time to dress more appropriately, but in the end etiquette won him over. Seeing him pause, Zool took his chance. “I’ll only be a few moments.”, he promised. The he ran down the hall to his room. Flinging the door open he ran inside and just as quickly slammed the door again. He rushed through his modest closet He pushed aside his organized tunics and other various articles of clothing.
His closet mostly consisted of black, but some browns, dark maroons and crimsons blended in with the rest of his dark clothes. Finally, in the very back of his closet he found a black tunic with gold lace and studded with rubies. It was a gift from the King in his first year training as a True Magician, one year ago. He had received it because of his ‘superior abilities’. It had a decorated cape that clipped onto his tunic with ruby clips and had designs made of gold thread sown onto the back. The fabric was a fine velvet. A gold and diamond belt wrapped carefully around his waist. A large ruby glittered at its center and he admired it. It was the only valuable object he owned.
He lay it carefully onto his large bed. The air felt cold on his skin as he stripped off his plain black tunic and boots. He pulled the fine tunic over his head and reached for his boots and pants. Then he put on a pair of black breeches made of the same black velvet. Silver ties adorned his only pair of good boots.
Zool looked at himself in the mirror. His straight chin-length, raven-black hair framed his face, his grey-blue eyes stood out. Most Zacharian’s eyes were black or a dark red. Some had brown eyes, but not many, and none that he knew of had blue eyes. They reminded him of ice and clouds on a snowy day. He pulled his hair up into a gold ringlet, and then, deciding it was foolish, he took it out again. Finally he put on the cape and walked out the door.
Reggin was tapping his foot again. He eyed Zool’s clothes with a greedy gleam in his beady eyes. He turned on his heel and stormed out the main entrance to the Sorcerer’s Chambers. Zool followed him more slowly. Reggin led the way through the large city. The buildings were made of black stone for the wealthy and wood or crimson brick for the less wealthy. Shops lined the paved streets, their shop doors closing and lights dimming. Dusk rapidly approached, some brave stars were peeking out of their dark home.
Above the city loomed the King’s castle. It was a wondrous structure with hundreds of twisting spires and columns. It’s many towers pierced the night sky. Candle light flickered in the thick glass windows, and stained glass windows glittered dangerously in the light of the dying sun. Gargoyles and Dragons protected the fortress from their stony perches around the castle. Zool had been here before, but it still froze his actions and made him stop to stare at the marvelous creation.
“Ahem?” Zool, brought out of his reverie, turned from the castle and once again turned to see a griping, resentful Reggin. He was tapping his foot again and Zool gave him a cold look. Reggin seemed to wither beneath his cold, powerful eyes and his face paled considerably.
Zool gestured to the castle, “By all means, lead the way.” Reggin regained his composure quickly and began to walk towards the castle briskly.
Zool’s thoughts were on a number of things. First was Zendor. He was excited to try riding him. Next was his training. He was learning at an alarming rate. And even more curious was the fact that it wasn’t to catch up to the other apprentices. He was ahead by four or five lessons. He was sure none of them had started working on Fal’zores yet. They were such blabber mouths, they would have told everyone who would listen within the day. And yet he still moved through seven or more spells a day. Kedfer was working him 9 hours a day and had started to work him on Saturday for four hours. Usually Saturday was rest day. All of this had greatly weakened Zool, leaving him tired and often dazed and unsteady.
The Ring of Sorcerers had discovered how hard he was being worked and had given Kedfer instruction to give Zool more breaks; let him rest more. Since then he had been doing much better in his studies, but still. Why had Kedfer been working him so hard in the first place? It all worried Zool so much. Last was why the King had summoned him to the castle. It didn’t worry him too much though. He had done nothing wrong and was the top apprentice of his age group.
All these thoughts distracted Zool and he was surprised by how quickly he was at the Castle. Reggin was approaching the steps that led up to the front door. Zool followed cautiously. Reggin spoke a word that Zool had never heard before and the huge front door opened slowly. Zool traversed the last ten steps and entered the finely carved mahogany door. He looked back and noticed that the door was covered in strange markings and symbols.
He puzzled over them until he smacked into Reggin who flew forward, his hand stretched out to catch his fall.
Panicked, Zool uttered a few quick words, “Feld’han recksla Reggin!” Reggin was picked up, as if by an invisible hand and placed carefully back where he stood a moment before. His face was stark white and his whole body was shaking. “What? Haven’t you ever seen magic before?”, Zool inquired smugly.
Reggin glared at Zool with his black eyes. The door to the King’s war chamber, the room the had been led to, opened quietly. Reggin walked in and greeted the king formally.
“My lord, King Zorm, the boy has been brought to you, as was instructed.”, Reggin spoke loudly, but his voice held a tremor that revealed his true feelings about being in the powerful king’s presence.
King Zorm’s voice was low and strong. It sent a shiver of fear scurrying down Zool’s spine. “Good, Zool, I have been meaning to talk to you. We have plans to make. Work to do. People to command.”
“I’m not sure I understand what you mean….”, Zool said warily. The King, though wise, was impatient.
King Zorm paused to move some pieces on what looked like a large chess board, but with landscape rather then squares. “We’re going to war!”

Oh,…..lovethebooks~ I havn’t taken ne. But I will take some…..SOON CUZ THEY ARE GETTING SO CUTE! And, it really depends on the dog. Mine are both really mellow and not hyper at all (especially the boy, Salem) but we gave one of our puppies to a friend and that one is like bouncing off the walls, but i think that is because they keep her in a kennel and she is like still a puppy. They are playful and hyper when they are little, but they usually grow out of it. Some might not, cuz’ it is just a personality triat, but ya. A little info on Alaskan Malamutes.

DANIEL-IM GONNA JUMP DOWN UR THROAT SOON, SO, IN ADVANCE, I AM SORRY, K?
RORAN WONT B THE NEW RIDER!!!
RORAN WONT B THE NEW RIDER!!!
RORAN WONT B THE NEW RIDER !!!
RORAN WONT B THE NEW RIDER!!!
THE REASON:
ERAGON STILL ISNT DONE WITH HIS TRAINING-THE ONLY REASON HE’S AS POWERFUL AS HE IS RIGHT NOW IS THE DRAGON’S GIFT!!!!!
IF RORAN WAS THE RIDER, BY THE TIME HE COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE, THE REBELLION WOULD ALREADY BE DECIDED.
THE NEW RIDER WILL BE AN ELF-A GIRL.
THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE THE DRAGON SPECIES IS FOR SAPHIRA & A MALE TO MATE.
IF THE NEW RIDER IS A GIRL, AND HER DRAGON IS A BOY, AND THE NEW DRAGON & SAPHIRA MATE, ERAGON & THE NEW RIDERWILL FALL IN LOVE.
THE RIDER MUST BE AN ELF-THAT WAY IT WOULDN’T TAKE SO LONG TO TRAIN HER,SHE COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE REBELLION
OF ALL THE ELVES WE’VE BEEN INTRODUCED TO, I THINK CP WILL MAKE ARYA THE NEW RIDER.
THE NEW RIDER ISNT RORAN-IT IS ARYA.
